Hannah Johnson (Gruber):
It was the dawn of a new day.
Hannah (Gruber) Johnson, 23, of Maplewood, Minn. decided it was time to jump on the musical bandwagon after seeing the joy on her brothers’ faces playing bluegrass music. Hannah began playing guitar when she was 12 years old and soon became the leading vocalist of the Gruber clan.
Hannah learned to strum and pick the guitar from master musician Brian Wicklund. Often clinging to the steady bluegrass strum, Hannah has also dabbled in blues and swing chords to add some flavor to her sound. Hannah usually avoids flat-picking but throws it in every now and then to shake people’s expectations.
While almost nothing beats singing and playing her Martin guitar, Hannah’s passion lies in songwriting. She is a co-founder of Blue Hazard and is overjoyed when her two brothers try talking more than she does during a performance.
Hannah loves to get lost in a good book, excels in Lord of the Rings Trivial Pursuit and is training to run a half-marathon and eventually a full marathon.
Hannah graduated in 2010 from Bethel University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in journalism and media communication. She is currently a reporter at the Stillwater Gazette. She married the dashing Chris Johnson in March 2011.
